George

George Hamilton iii was the next animal rescued after Lovey the horse. He is a pig in case you did not know. We do not want to upset the animals by saying he is Danielle’s favorite, but he is definitely her favorite.

Danielle found him on the side of the road, just a little piglet all by himself, not in great shape. She wrapped him up in a blanket, gave him serious amounts of cuddles and took him home. It turns out that he had scabies, and unfortunately all that piggy cuddling by our CEO meant she caught it too. Both banished from the main house for a brief period, they grew closer and began to build an unbreakable bond. He lived in the house for a couple of years but anyone who has met George can see why eventually he had to move outside. He is a big boy, he is overly cautious of adults, but he adores children and once he makes a friend of you, you will be friends for life.

Pigs have a powerful sense of self and are smarter than dogs. They are playful, and incredibly loyal and protective. Their sense of smell is around two thousand times more sensitive than a human’s which is a useful attribute when it comes to searching for food or gathering information, which is all done via their gorgeous snouts.

George loves wallowing in mud when he gets a little hot because unlike humans, pigs do not really sweat so the phrase ‘sweat like a pig’ is a little peculiar and completely inaccurate. The mud helps them to regulate their body temperature, cooling them down on sweltering summer days, and discourages parasites.

Another misconception is that Pigs are dirty animals, despite rolling around in the mud which we now know serves a vital purpose, they are actually exceptionally clean. They do not defecate anywhere near their sleeping or eating areas, even newly born pigs, which cannot be said for many of the other animals at Farmhouse Rescue.

People think pigs smell, well we think George smells divine, and we even produce organic soaps that enable you to ‘smell like a pig,’ George in particular. The soap named after George has a fragrance of roasted almonds and wild cherries. Our soaps are all cruelty-free, free of harsh chemicals, and contain 100% natural vegan ingredients including shea butter, olive oil, and coconut oil. Why not head over to the store on our website to stock up, they smell so good and make beautiful gifts for family and friends.

We ask that you sign up for an automatic payment program. Your sponsorship donations can come directly out of your checking or savings account, or be charged to a debit or credit card. Automatic contribution programs are a convenient way to ensure the ongoing daily care of our shelter animals. They also cut down on administrative costs, which means that your contribution goes that much further to help the animals!
Because the animals at FarmHouse Rescuehave been rescued from situations of cruelty, abuse, and neglect, many of them have special care needs, including costly veterinary expenses. Since it is often too costly for one person to fund the care of a special needs animal, we must provide for many of these needy individuals with the help of multiple generous sponsors like you. The more sponsors we have, the more animals we can commit to caring for, and so on.
