The Benefits of Volunteering

There are many benefits to volunteering, both for the person volunteering and for the organization or community they are helping.

One benefit of volunteering is the opportunity to give back to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of others. This can be a very rewarding and fulfilling experience, as it allows you to contribute to a cause that you care about and make a difference in the world.

Another benefit is the opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience. Many volunteering opportunities provide training and allow volunteers to learn new skills that they can use in their personal and professional lives. It can help to boost a person’s resume and show potential employers that they have been actively engaged in their field, even if they have not been working in a paid capacity.

Finally, volunteering can also have a positive impact on mental and physical health. Studies have shown that volunteering can reduce stress, improve mental health, and increase overall well-being. It can also provide a sense of purpose and meaning, which can be particularly important for people who are retired or transitioning to a new phase in their lives. It helps people stay active, engaged, and motivated, and can provide a sense of purpose. It can be a great way to meet new people and make connections with others who share similar interests.

The only difficulty we have is that because we need to train and supervise our volunteers, we need them to commit to at least one day per week that they can do every week. Occasionally we will have small projects, camps or special events that we need casual volunteers for, but committed weekly volunteers are what keeps the farm running week after week. Many people would love to help but cannot commit, which we completely understand, but this can be very time-consuming for us. However, we hope to arrange some one-off projects in the near future, so that people can have a chance to give a little help to the cause without full commitment.
